Montenegro abolishes eco-tax

Montenegrin Government has made a decision on the abolition of eco-taxes for foreign road vehicles, tax that was paid for roads at the entry of vehicles into the country.Prime Minister of Montenegro Igor Luksic announced in late July that the eco-tax is not paid from 1 January. Previously, the president of the Union of Employers of Montenegro Predrag Mitrovic said that the tax did more harm than good. "Tourists from Serbia  are most complained to  eco-tax, and its contribution to the budget is not significant", Mitrovic told.Owners of motor vehicles entering Montenegro are paying 10-150 euros eco taxes, depending on the type and size of the vechile. By paying taxes, vechiles  is getting eco-sticker, valid for one year.Proceeds from the eco tax, introduced in the 2008th year, is used to finance projects in the field of conservation and environmental protection.Andrija Lompar, Minister of Transport and Telecommunications of Montenegro back in March 2009. announced that the environmental taxes for entry to Montenegro will be eliminated. "Environmental taxes will be removed, probably before next season", Lompar said back then, but in the meantime it has not happened.Source: Mina
